WAVES Is Expanding: Making Counselling More Accessible Across the UK

At WAVES, accessibility has always been at the heart of what we do.
We know that for many people, counselling is something they need, but cannot easily afford. Long waiting lists, limited eligibility criteria, and rising costs mean that too often, people are left without support at the point they need it most. Over time, we have seen first-hand how these barriers impact survivors of abuse, people living on low incomes, and those who simply fall outside of traditional service thresholds.
That is why we are proud to share that from today, WAVES is now expanding its counselling services to offer support UK wide.

Free Counselling for Domestic and Sexual Abuse Survivors
WAVES continues to provide specialist counselling for individuals who have experienced domestic abuse or sexual abuse, whether those experiences are historic or ongoing.
As part of this service, clients can access:
6 free counselling sessions
With the option to continue for a further 6 sessions at £10 per session
This structure allows people to access meaningful, trauma-informed support without immediate financial pressure, while also offering continuity where further work is helpful and appropriate.
We recognise that survivors often face additional barriers to accessing therapy, including financial hardship, housing insecurity, and fear of not being believed or understood. Our aim is to provide a safe, respectful space where people can begin to process their experiences at their own pace.
Low-Cost Counselling for Any Issue – Now UK-Wide
Alongside our specialist abuse services, WAVES also now offers low-cost counselling for any issue, now available to adults across the UK.
This service provides:
Counselling at £25 per session
For up to 18 sessions
This option is open to individuals seeking support for a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, relationship issues, grief, identity concerns, or simply feeling overwhelmed and needing space to talk.
For many people, £25 per session makes counselling something they can realistically commit to, rather than something that feels out of reach. It allows for consistency, depth, and relationship-based work, without the pressure of very short-term intervention.

Why We’re Expanding
This expansion is about reaching people who need support but are being missed by existing systems. We know that low income does not mean low need, and that struggling to afford counselling does not make someone’s experiences any less valid. By offering both free and genuinely affordable options, we hope to bridge the gap between overstretched public services and costly private therapy.
Moving UK-wide also allows us to reach people in rural or underserved areas, where access to local services may be limited. With online and telephone counselling available, support can be accessed wherever someone is based.
Our Commitment
All counselling at WAVES is delivered by professionally trained counsellors working in a trauma-informed, inclusive, and non-judgemental way. Our focus remains on quality, safety, and client experience, as well as on ensuring counselling remains accessible to those who might otherwise go without.
This expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to making counselling ethical, affordable, and available to more people, at a time when it is needed more than ever.

Support should not be a privilege. At WAVES, we believe it should be accessible to everyone.
