2023 Counselling Placements Go Live

WAVES is offering an additional round of placement opportunities for those who are training to be counsellors and seeking to work within the field of domestic abuse.

Towards the end of the year of 2022, WAVES was proud to have provided unique training to a range of counsellors, all of whom have been given the unique insights, information and resources to work effectively and provide high quality counselling intervention to those who have experienced domestic abuse in Cornwall. WAVES has since been able to offer multiple placements to counselling students who have completed the training, who will now go on to provide counselling to those who have experience abuse, all under supervision of experienced therapists within domestic abuse.

After high demand and call for additional placements to be offered, WAVES applications for placements have again gone live as of today, with applications closing at 11PM on the 28th February 2023. A select few of the many applications WAVES receives will go on to be afforded the opportunity to not only complete training with WAVES which focuses on abuse experienced by Women, Men, LGBTQ+, and children, but will also be given the resources, tools and techniques developed and delivered by experienced therapist and clinical supervisor Jo Stone, manager of the WAVES Counselling Project.

"The training delivered by Jo and the WAVES team is truly amazing, I have learned so much and feel confident in working with those who have experienced abuse... the project is very much needed during this time and I am glad to now be part of the amazing work they do" - Trainee

WAVES provides therapy in a variety of formats, including face to face, phone, and video, the latter two having grown in popularity since the COVID-19 pandemic and has become a useful and convenient way for clients to attend the twelve sessions of free therapy, where life circumstances such as child care and work may have been a barrier to accessing support previously.
